Posted on September 25th, 2009 by Samanatha Jones in Diet Logs, Dieting, Healthy Eating

The main building blocks of good health are a balanced nutritious diet and regular exercise. A healthy diet consists of all the essential nutrients that are required to maintain as well as improve health. It is an essential factor in the prevention of chronic diseases that may be caused due to deficiency or excess of some element in our diet.

A healthy diet provides us energy for the metabolism and it constitutes food items that have been chosen from all the groups. All food groups provide us with different nutrients. Vegetables provide us potassium, foliate, fiber, vitamin A, C, E and K. Grains provide us iron, fiber and certain vitamins. Fruits offer us with potassium, fiber; foliate and vitamin C. Oils and fats contain vitamin E and fatty acids. The dairy products have vitamin D, calcium and potassium. Beans, eggs, meat and fish contain vitamin E, zinc, magnesium and iron.
